Education Service Center (ESC) Region 12 recognized 84 area math and science teachers at a special ceremony held Wednesday, July 27, for their commitment to be highly trained and to mentor other teachers in their content area through the Texas Regional Collaborative for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching (TRC).
“Participating with ESC Region 12 TRC benefits teachers with high-quality professional development, technology training and networking opportunities,” said Becky Ralston, ESC Region 12 Math Collaborative project director. “It goes beyond passively sitting through training. These are truly teacher leaders.”
During the 2015-2016 school year, the recognized math and science teachers mentored at least two other teachers and completed a minimum of 100 hours of training in the latest methods and techniques for engaging students in math and science learning experiences. Many of these dedicated teachers exceeded the minimum requirements and completed more than 120 hours of training.
With nearly 200 people in attendance to honor the teachers, the event included guest speakers and a dessert buffet sponsored by M&M Mars, HEB and Sonic Drive-In.
Additional awards recognized top achieving participants, Math and Science mentors and a Teacher of the Year in both subjects.
