Dorothy Brackens, age 97, passed away on January 21, 2024 at her home with family at her bedside. She was the second child born to Esker and Hortense Brackens on April 3, 1926.
She attended public school at Dogan. She moved to Dallas and was employed with the Southern Life Insurance Company until her retirement in 1990.
Dorothy began her faith journey as a little girl, worshiping at Fairfield COGIC #1 with her family. Upon moving to Dallas she and her older siblings joined Faith Tabernacle under the pastorage of T.D. Daniels. When her brother Billy was called by God to preach and instructed to go build his church, she and her siblings went with him. The church was named Sweet Fellowship COGIC where she became a charter member and she served faithfully until moving to Fairfield with her son and daughter-in-law in 2003. She was one of the first musicians for the church beating the snare, tambourine and playing the thimble and rub board. After visiting several churches in Fairfield she joined the Cornerstone Full Gospel Church of Fairfield, Inc. for a few years, under the leadership of Apostle David Ransom. She then joined Jones Chapel UMC, under the pastorage of Elder Conrell Lockett III, where she served until her health declined.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Esker and Hortense Brackens; siblings, Larry, Thesker, Billy, Doris, Deloris, Dolly, Dimple Brackens; great grandchildren, Tristan Leeann Scires and Aston Ty Brackens.
Loving survivors: Loyal son and devoted daughter-in-law, Tony and Sherry Brackens; granddaughter, Shetonia (Chris) Scires; grandsons, Tony Jr. (Candace) Brackens and CharKeith (Felicia) Brackens; great grandchildren, Caleb Scires, Aaryn Scires, Aidan Brackens, McKinna Brackens, Charlee Brackens, Blakye Brackens, Kole Brackens, Harper Brackens; sister, Dessie Brackens; brothers, Robert Leo (Bobbie) Brackens, Donald Sr. (Nancy) Brackens, along with a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
Interment was held Fairfield Methodist Cemetery in Fairfield, Texas.
