Wortham will celebrate its Homecoming on October 24th-25th with a variety of traditional events and festive activities that honor returning and current students and celebrate a historic milestone for the school and community.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the Wortham Ex-Students Association. Sixteen former students met at the school in 1945 and held the first meeting of the Wortham Ex-Students Association. These individuals felt such loyalty, and they wanted to give back to their beloved school and community. The organization’s purpose was to create a Homecoming event for students to return to each year. They also created a scholarship that is still given to graduating seniors today.

Through the decades, the Wortham Ex Students Association has sustained many long-standing Homecoming traditions, while also providing unfailing loyalty and support to the Wortham ISD and the Wortham community.

Annually at Homecoming, the Wortham Ex-Students Association pays tribute to returning students at the football game on Friday night, and at the Saturday activities. The spotlight on Friday, October 24th will be on graduating classes from years ending in ‘5.’ They will be introduced at halftime of the matchup between the Mighty Bulldogs and the Goldthwaite Eagles. The Ex-Student Homecoming Queen, Queen Betty of the House of Allen, will also be honored during the halftime festivities, along with the WHS Royal Court.

Before and during the game, former students will gather in the East End Zone of Bulldog Field where the Ex-Students Association will greet them and update contact information. After the game, all are welcome to gather at the Chamber of Commerce Building to renew friendships and share memories of their WHS days.

The annual Business Meeting will be held on Saturday, Oct. 25th, 10:00 am, at the WISD Administration Building. Association business will be discussed, and the 2025 Ex-Student Queen and Employee of Honor will be elected. The Class of 1975, celebrating their 50th reunion, will entertain with stories of their memorable times as WHS students. This always includes humorous and often cringe-worthy anecdotes about the school, teachers, and classmates. However, the message unfailingly underscores the important role that Wortham school played in their life and upbringing.

The long-honored tradition of the Queen’s Coffee will be held immediately following the Business Meeting, also in the WISD Administration, hosted by Queen Betty of the House of Allen, the reigning queen. All former Queens and the newly elected Queen will be recognized. Mr. and Miss WHS, current seniors, will also be honored. This is an informal time for Exes to socialize and enjoy refreshments prepared by the current and past Queens.

The Wortham Ex-Students Association endures with a distinctive history that is interwoven with the history of the community, the school, and its graduates. They continue to make Wortham Homecoming a memorable event. See everyone at Homecoming 2025!
