Andy Owens, of Fairfield, went home to be with the Lord on March 2, 2017.
He was born on July 30, 1941 to Andrew and Virgie (Baldwin) Owens.
Andy served in the United States Army. He later went to work for the Texas Department of Corrections. In 2005, Andy retired from the state and started to live out his dream of raising horses.
All of those that knew Andy knew how proud he was of his family. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and most of all “Papa.” He loved his family unconditionally and served as a role model for all of us. When you saw him in town, you probably heard a story about one of his kids or grandkids. He was a proud Papa!
He was a man with a generous heart and wise soul. He always found the good in all people and lived to help others. He was an avid lover of horses and spent much of his time outdoors. Andy regularly helped at the River of Life Food Bank. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and the Masonic Lodge.
Andy is survived by Heidi, his wife of 55 years, his four children and their spouses-Christy and Steven Christiansen, Constance and Kenneth Schatte, Jeff Owens and Jimmy Owens and his two sisters, Jean Keys and Maggie Baker. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren and their spouses (John and Andi, Amanda, Jordan and Kris, Joe and Stephanie, Drew and Andrea, Madison and McKenzie) and his eleven great-grandchildren (Kaiser, Kendall, Jailey, Kane, Kruz, Ariana, Ryleigh, Jaxson, Noah, Audrina, and Chloe). He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Virgie Owens, sisters, Emma Scalise, Oma Nichols, Ollie Nance and brothers, Donald Owens and Joe Owens.
A celebration of his life was held on Sunday, March 5th at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Richard Heyduck. If you would like to honor Andy, the family asks that you make a donation to the First United Methodist Building Fund, Fairfield, Tx, in his name. The family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers and generosity during this time.
