Top Competitive Eaters to Converge in Lewisville to Win $3,500 in Prize Money

 

Top competitive eaters will gather in Texas to compete at the Western Days Festival 14th-Annual World Tamale-Eating Championship Presented By Market Street, at 1pm Central, on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the top of the steps leading up to City Hall in Lewisville, TX.

Major League Eating is proud to announce the return of this delicious event to our 2018 slate of sanctioned eating championships. This year, World Tamale-Eating Championship will be contested over 10 minutes of competition for the first time ever. A new 10-minute world record in the tamale discipline will be set.

At the 2017 Championship, the #4-ranked Geoffrey Esper of Oxford, MA took the title after eating 83.5 2 oz tamales in 12 minutes. The world record for the 12 minute discipline is held by the #1-ranked Joey Chestnut from San Jose, CA who ate 102 tamales in 12 minutes, in 2012.

This year, the #5-ranked Darron Breeden from Orange, VA, enters the competition as the favorite. Other top ranked eaters will include: the #8-ranked Adrian Morgan from New Orleans, LA, the #9-ranked Michelle Lesco from Tucson, AZ, the #17-ranked Juan Neave from Austin, TX, the #37-ranked “Nasty” Nate Biller from Keller, TX, the #41-ranked Kassandra Zapata from Donna, TX, the #42-ranked Katie Prettyman from Marysville, WA, and the #50-ranked Alex “Moose” Perez of Dallas, TX.

The Western Days Festival World Tamale Eating Championship Presented By Market Street* is a highlight of the annual Western Days Festival in historic Old Town Lewisville, TX. This MLE-sanctioned competition is organized by the Lewisville Convention and Visitors Bureau. Market Street is the official provider of contest tamales at the World Tamale Eating Championship. Past champions of this event include reigning champion Geoffrey Esper, Adrian “The Rabbit” Morgan, Tim “Eater X” Janus, Sonya Thomas, Joey Chestnut and Miki Sudo. Other festival events include live music, the Cattle Drive Parade featuring a herd of 20 longhorn cattle, an art exhibit, children’s activities and more.
