“I am never having an idea again,” jokes Victoria Keng, a Fairfield Chamber of Commerce Ambassador for the Freestone County Times, when talking about the benefit drive she is putting together for the Nursing Home Ministry.

She did not think when she suggested the idea that she would be called on to spearhead the project herself.

When Victoria first start to think about doing a sort of benefit drive during the holidays, she thought reverse advent calendar to help benefit children in the community.

After a bit of thinking and research she realized the elderly are often forgotten in the holidays.

Chamber Executive Director Brenda Pate suggested the drive to benefit the Nursing Home Ministry headed by Lisa Underhill of Fairfield.

And so, The Twelve Days of Christmas formed into a full-fledged project and not just an idea inside Victoria’s head.

She contacted Lisa Underhill about what she wanted to do, and to find out what sort of items are the most needed.

With this information, a plan was formed and written out; Victoria went out to a variety of businesses in Fairfield, Texas and explained what she wanted to do.
Everyone agreed to help immediately.

“The overwhelming support I found in Fairfield, Texas is just one more proof of what a wonderful community we are blessed to live in,” Victoria explains with a smile.

The Twelve Days of Christmas will run from Monday, December 9th through Saturday, December 21st, 2019 with the exception of Sunday.

Each day brings a new location and item for someone to donate.

The locations are carefully selected to help bring shoppers to a place selling that day’s item, great Christmas shopping, and/or a wonderful experience to share with family and friends.

And yes, Children’s books – “Children are the greatest gift of all,” Lisa Underhill explained to Victoria when she explained why such an item is wanted.

The Nursing Home Ministry benefits the nursing homes in Fairfield, Texas, and senior citizens still able to live in their residences in Fairfield and surrounding areas.
