Beat University in three after losing the first game L 25-15, W 25-18, W 25-18

The Wortham girls team started off very sluggish in the West game and didn’t start playing until the end, according to Coach DeAnna Whaley. “Franklin was a continuous battle so I’m very pleased with how hard my girls worked together and continued to hustle and not give up,” she says.

“University was a very slow start with Libero Hallie Fautt having to wait out a nose bleed and not start the game,” continues Coach Whaley.  “Hallie made it back into the game but we just couldn’t get anything to fall into place in the first game.”

Wortham came out strong in the second game with the lead and continued to push for the win.

Leading in kills was Kayla Lansford with a day total of 33. Kayla had 14 digs, 5 blocks and one ace.

Ashley Mao had 25 kills, 2 blocks, 3 aces and 5 digs.

Setter Jayde Hamilton had 23 assists, 11 kills, one ace and 12 digs.

Rylee Goolsby had 11 kills and 4 blocks.

Skylar Phillips had 10 kills and 4 digs.

Samantha Wright had 9 kills and 7 digs.

Setter Darcy Taylor had 11 assists, 3 digs and one ace.

Megan Whaley had 15 digs and Libero Hallie Fautt had 47 digs.  Hallie also had 9 kills today.  We have been focusing on utilizing our back row attacks and Hallie really stepped up.

The Lady Bulldogs made the silver bracket, but lost two of the three games on Saturday, August 26, 2017.

They started district play on Tuesday in Wortham against Mt. Calm.
