Tech Time, Teen Volunteers & Renovations!

The Fairfield Library Board and Director, Gary Wiggins, are excited about an increase in activity and events at the library.

The library is now offering Tech Time programs for one-on-one technology assistance. Patrons may receive help with downloading our free eBooks, use of tablets and smartphones, cloud storage (Dropbox, Google Drive), and social media (Facebook, Instagram). To schedule an appointment, drop in or contact the library at 903-389-3574 or FairfieldTxLibrary@gmail.com.

The library will also be offering group technology classes in a modern technology computer lab after the library remodel, which is estimated to be complete near the end of summer. The internet speed has already been upgraded from 6MB to 75MB and four new computers have already been added; three of which were donated by the Rotary Club in January and immediately put to use. Other technology upgrades are scheduled for April.

A new teen library group which is a branch of the Rotary Interact Club has formed. The TLC, Teen Library Corps, has volunteered 145 hours since May 2016. This group has helped shelve books, helped process new books, cleaned, organized, recycled, and participated in the selection of the new Young Adult books recently purchased.

There have been decisions made and plans are in place in other areas as well. After renovations, a new layout in the library will provide additional space for a new teen area, a children’s area with colorful fun seating, a modern Community/Meeting Room, new flooring, new lighting, new furniture and restrooms.

Although renovations have just begun, now is a great time to go visit the library, says Director Gary Wiggins. Many pieces of furniture are available for donation, and many books are available to give away for free. Storytime for Pre-K has started back up and those events are currently planned for twice monthly. Be sure to follow the Library’s Facebook and Instagram pages @FairfieldTxLibrary for those specific dates and other upcoming events.

The Freestone County Critters that were created by FISD students last August have traveled to the Library for the spring. Parents and grandparents are encouraged to stop with children and interact with the exhibit. Be sure to bring your QR Code readers to listen to their presentation.

In the March Annual Meeting, three members of the Board of Directors, Lyle Red, Tammy Gawryszewski, and Cristi Allred, were all re-elected to serve for three year terms.
