LIONS CRUISE BY YOEMEN…FINALLY 40-14

It took four years and minimal therapy but the Teague Lions raced past the Cameron Yoemen for the first time in the last four years at Robinson High School.

Cameron had eliminated the Lions the last three seasons in various rounds of the 3A playoffs.  Teague had heard all the stories and lived through them and it was time move past the team they couldn’t move past.

Teague started early and often and put the game out of reach early.

After the Lions turned the ball over on downs and forced a three and out for Cameron, Teague ran the next 25 plays for the remainder of the first quarter through the midway part of the second quarter.

Teague took the ball at the 24 yard line and three carries from Tayvis Coleman put the Lions at midfield.

Four of the next five snaps went into the hands of Coleman and the last one he scampered in for a 19 yard touchdown run and the extra point gave the Lions a 7-0 lead.

The Lions went crafty and called for an on sides kick.  Teague recovered and took over at the Cameron 49 yard line.  Teague stalled and made a fourth and one and later Zack Satterwhite ran on a quarterback keeper and Cameron was penalized for a facemask.

Facing a fourth and nine at the Cameron 19, Satterwhite hit Rodney Kuykendall on the sideline and he sprinted into the endzone.  Teague converted three of four fourth downs in the first quarter.

The Lion defense held again and the snap went over the punter’s head and into the endzone.  He grabbed in and tried to kick it and the ball bounced to the two yard line and Marcus Williams covered it.  He lined up in the backfield and took the handoff on the two yard touchdown and the Lions led 21-0 with 6:38 remaining in the first half.

Cameron did put a drive together they went 67 yards and Zach Andress scored on a one yard plunge to cut the lead to 21-7.

Teague took little time getting that score back.  Three running plays and a timeout set the Lion offense.  With sixteen seconds to go, Satterwhite hit a wide open Coleman down the middle and he found the end zone to conclude the 55 yard scoring play.

Cameron took the second half kickoff and reached Teague territory.  On a first down play, the Lion defense, led by Isaiah Bell and Trevor Cooper, knocked the ball loose.  Fred Harper jumped on the loose ball and the offense took over.

The Teague running game had control through the first half and regained its momentum in the first drive of the second half.  Coleman and Daveon Dixon put the offense near midfield.  Satterwhite dropped back and found Tyrese Heard for a 30 yard connection inside the Cameron 30.  Coleman took the next three carries and the last one was a four yard touchdown run.  The point after was no good so the  Lion lead stood at 34-7.

Cameron turned the ball over on downs and the Lions went back to work.  Heard, Dixon and Coleman led the rushing attack with Dixon scoring the final Lion touchdown of the night.

Cameron added a late score but the damage was done and the Lions left with a sigh of relief, a win over Cameron and a date in the area round of the playoffs.

Coleman led the rushing attack with 243 yards on 25 carries and two touchdowns.  He also added a receiving touchdown.

The Teague Lions move on take on the Winnie East Chambers Buccaneers.  East Chambers defeated the Buna Cougars 35-12 on Friday night.

The teams will meet at 7pm Friday at Conroe’s Woodforest Stadium.

WHILE THE OFFENSE WAS ROLLING, the Teague Defense was stifling in their blowout win against Cameron Yoe.

GETTING HIS FIRST RUSHING TOUCHDOWN of the year is Teague Lion #77, Marcus Williams, who normally blocks for the Teague running backs.

IT’S A BIG RECEPTION by Teague Lion #13, Tyrese Heard, against Cameron.
