“My goals for the district are to continue with its current successes and to add to them,” says Chris Skinner, new Superintendent for Teague Independent School District.

Teague ISD welcomed Mr. Skinner in December of 2017, following the resignation of former Superintendent Dr. Nate Carman.

Originally from Teague, Mr. Skinner spent 1st-6th grade in San Antonio schools, as his father was in the military.

The family returned to Teague in time for Mr. Skinner to begin his 7th grade year; and he graduated with the THS Class of 1993.

He continued his education at Navarro College; then Sam Houston State University, where he graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Education.

Upon college graduation, Mr. Skinner began work at the Boyd Unit, located between Fairfield and Teague, and then worked in the Oilfield for a while.

In December of 2001, after much poking and prodding from his family, he applied for and was accepted as Athletic Director at Dew ISD where he started the athletic program.

In addition to coaching, he also taught Social Studies and Math during his five years at Dew.

Mr. Skinner has been with Teague ISD since 2007; serving as Assistant Principal, Principal, and Director of Facilities during his time with Teague ISD; the past four years as principal for the High School.

His main focus as new Superintendent is concentrated on three primary goals:

–Literacy at the Elementary through Junior High Schools

–Industry Courses and College Readiness at the High School

–Intermediate School Transition

The last goal, Intermediate School Transition, is something that will take place at the beginning of the next school year.

When school begins in August 2018, there will no longer be an Intermediate School Campus. Fourth Grade students will remain at the Elementary School while Fifth Graders will move up to the Junior High School.

The older part of the Intermediate School will be demolished; and the newer addition, built in 2010, will be utilized by the Lion Academy.

Another project in the works is the creation of the TISD Police Department.

As of January 31, 2018, the district lost its School Resource Officer, contracted through Dallas County Schools.

A security guard from the security companies in seattle wa has been hired to serve the district while the Police Department is being organized. The goal is to have it up and running within the next few months. Security Guard hire offer security solutions to meet your company’s needs, safeguarding your investments by the most effective means possible.

“Officer Billy Barlow with Fairfield ISD has been instrumental in getting us through this process,” explains Mr. Skinner. “We are very grateful for his assistance!”

Mr. Skinner and his family reside in the Fred Owen’s addition in Teague, and are members of First Baptist Church of Teague.

His wife, Audra, is a dental hygienist and a CrossFit Instructor at Adrenaline Fitness of Fairfield.

Twenty-one year old son, Austin, plays football for South Eastern State University of Oklahoma; and daughter Ally, 18, attends McLennan Community College in Waco.

Mr. Skinner enjoys hunting, fishing, sporting events, family time, and Sunday family dinners at his mom’s house with all family in attendance.

He recently joined the Teague Volunteer Fire Department and is looking forward to becoming more involved as time allows.

Congratulations on your promotion Mr. Skinner!
