Freestone County Sheriff’s Office acknowledged 2017 award recipients for Deputy of the Year, Employee of the Year, and a Letter of Commendation at the February 14th Commissioners Court Meeting. Award presentation was held on Friday, February 9th.

Taking the honor of Deputy of the Year is Travis Martin (above, center) for always having a great attitude, outstanding performance, and his hard work.

Recently promoted from Records to Jail Administrator, Lieutenant Sheena Wimberly (above, center) was awarded Employee of the Year for going above and beyond, for helping with all jail issues, and ensuring expectations are met.

A Letter of Commendation was presented to Dispatcher Kateley Craig for her outstanding performance as a new dispatcher working during the Trooper Damon Allen tragedy. (Pictured at top of page)

“Our employees did a great job overall and we are proud to be able to acknowledge these three for the year 2017,” says Sheriff Jeremy Shipley.

During this meeting, Commissioners accepted a $5,000 donation to the Sheriff’s Office from Midwest Energy Partners (formerly Enbridge) to be used for training and equipment.

Also accepted was a donation of seven (7) guns, 6 patrol rifles and 1 precision long-range rifle, to the Sheriff’s Department from Freestone County citizen Ricky Manning and his business associates. Total cost for all was $6,371.

“These guns are a huge improvement on what we currently carry,” explains Sheriff Shipley. “We truly appreciate Mr. Manning and his associates.”

Commissioner, Pct. 3 Mike Daniels says, “I think you all are doing an exceptional job, Sheriff and Chief; really going above and beyond to take care of the citizens of this county. We appreciate the hard work. You’re doing a great job.”

The next Commissioners Court meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 21, at 9:00 a.m. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.
