“TexasMonthly” magazine names Representative Byron Cook (R) of Corsicana as one of the best in its The Best and Worse Legislators article by Dan Solomon in the July 2017 edition.

Solomon states that Cook sits in perhaps the hottest seat as he chairs the State Affairs Committee, which handles many of the most controversial bills.

He says that Cook’s preference for moderation and his ability, as the conscience of the House, to sway fellow lawmakers with moving speeches is what earned him a spot on the Best list.

“In general, his moderation, level-headedness, and genuineness helped prevent the session from becoming even more divisive than it already was,” concludes Solomon.
