Candidate filings for the 2018 Primary Elections were officially closed last week, as of 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 11, 2017.

Freestone County has three contested races for the March primaries.

Former Chief of Police for Teague Police Department, Dan Ramsey, threw his hat in the ring for Justice of the Peace – Precinct 2.  Ramsey will face incumbent Debra Hamilton in the Republican primary.

Winner of this race will face the lone Democratic candidate, Pam Whitt, during the General Election next Fall.

County Clerk incumbent, Linda Jarvis, is up against fellow Republican, Renee Reynolds.  As there are no Democratic candidates, this race will be decided in the Primary Election in March.

Vying for the position of County Treasurer are two Republican candidates:  Jeannie Keeney and Tammy Harris.  Winner of the Primary election will have no contenders in November’s General Election, as there were no Democratic candidates to file.

Current Treasurer, Kay Taylor, will be retiring at the end of the current term.

Primary Elections for the Democratic and Republican parties will be held on March 6, 2018 for County, State and National offices.  Early voting is set to start February 20, 2018.
