New appointments and resignations led the discussion of the Teague City Council Monday, September 18, 2017.

Lieutenant DeWayne Philpott was officially voted in to his new position as Interim Chief of Police following the departure of former Chief Dan Ramsey on August 25th. As the highest ranking officer, Lt. Philpott was appointed to the interim position on the same day and has since been serving in that capacity.

Lt. Philpott and the Council now seek to add two new officers to the force following the September 13th resignation of Officer Kayln Tieman.

The position of lieutenant will remain open until a new Chief is found, however Aldermen decided to postpone the search until the first of the year.

Among the other employee resignations accepted during the meeting were that of Dennis Covert, Public Works Tech, and Assistant Public Works Director Lance Kamp, dated for August 26th and September 23rd respectively.

A proclamation designating October 3, 2017 as National Night Out in the City of Teague was signed by the Council.

National Night Out is a nationwide initiative designed to encourage partnerships between law enforcement agencies and their communities. Former Chief Dan Ramsey introduced the event to Teague in 2016 with much success.

This year’s event will take place Tuesday, October 3rd from 5:30 – 9:00 p.m. at the Teague City Park and will feature free food and games, music and live entertainment, and of course, emergency response vehicles and local law enforcement officers.

In other business, Aldermen voted to authorize the submission of a grant application for the Routine Airport Maintenance Program (Ramp Grant), a match grant for up to $50,000, for the Teague Municipal Airport for 2018.

The grant is designed to cover any routine maintenance, from the purchasing of supplies to improvements of the runway, signage, fuel systems, hangars, security systems and much more.

Also approved was an interlocal agreement between the Teague Police Department and Freestone County Attorney’s Office, pursuant to Chapter 59 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.

The agreement deals with the disposition of property and/or money in any seizure filed in the 77th Judicial District Court.

The Council cast their vote for the Texas Municipal League (TML) Multi-governmental Employee Benefits Pool Board of Trustees for the Region 9 Candidate, Connie Standridge.
