Philip Ray Winfrey, 81, of Fairfield, died Tuesday, October 25, 2016 in Fairfield.  Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 28, 2016 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Skinner officiating.  Interment followed at Fairfield Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Billy Patterson, Clint Seale, Mark Chavers, Lindale Phillips, Donald Mullen and Tommy Miller.  Honorary pallbearers were members of the Gideon Sunday School Class.
Mr. Winfrey was born March 30, 1935 in Freestone County, near Teague, to parents Phillip M. and Vera Mae Liles Winfrey.  Mr. Winfrey owned and operated a machine shop in Garland, TX prior to retirement.  Following retirement he moved to Fairfield where his family lived.  He loved working at, and meeting people at a local coffee shop known as the Rooster Crow.  After a while he knew what the customers wanted and had their coffee ready as they drove by the window.  One of his customers painted a picture of him in a Hawaiian shirt which was a signature of his.  He also worked for his church, Calvary Baptist, as a maintenance supervisor until poor health forced his retirement. 
Left to cherish his memory are four children, Philip Randall Winfrey and wife Melissa of Houston, TX; Patricia Breaux and husband Ronnie of Flower Mound, TX; Windi Rae Brown of Brandon, MS; Phillip Wayne Winfrey of Austin, TX; one sister, Eloise Mosley and husband Bill of Fairfield; special friend Catherine Ethridge of Fairfield; one grandson, Taylen Ray Brown of Brandon, MS; a niece, Pam Chavers and nephew Leslie Freeman both of Fairfield; and many friends.
