Where in the State of Texas can you find a group of talented, exciting, creative authors and a Nashville indie music star?

The Lone Star Book Festival, of course! This unique and fresh book event will be held in Austin September 24 & 25, 2016 at the Austin American-Statesman event parking lot facing S. Congress.

The Lone Star Book Festival features indie and traditionally published Texas authors with the emphasis heavily on the indie side of that equation.

This unique traveling book festival is the brain child of the Texas Association of Author’s subsidiary, D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read) Texas. Not only does the festival provide the opportunity for the general public to meet and greet new authors, but to have some fun as well.

Texas Country Music star, Billy Dawson, is the keynote speaker. An Amazon best-selling author, Billy writes children’s books focusing on bullying and racism. He was recently awarded the coveted Artist of the Year, Best Country Male Vocalist and Best Country Live Performer awards by the Nashville Independent Music Association. He is a motivational speaker and performer and will be a lively addition to the Lone Star Book Festival.

Fun and interactive sessions are planned for children and adults. One of the featured events at this year’s festival is a scavenger hunt which will cover a 7 mile area in downtown Austin and Lady Bird lake. The search will be for books written about a specific location within that area utilizing an innovative app, Squirl. Funds from the entry fees will go toward the D.E.A.R. Texas Literacy program. Prizes will be awarded.

The first annual Lone Star Book Festival will be held in Austin, then travel around the state visiting a major city each following year. There is no other book festival like this.

Be a part of this crusade to introduce reading and writing to the younger generation in Texas!
