The Fairfield Lady Eagles split the week and remain in a solid third place position in the District 18-4A standings.

Fairfield opened the week at the Johnson Activity Center and hosted the Madisonville Lady Mustangs.  The district leading Lady Mustangs got six three pointers from Tra’dayja Smith and the Lady Eagles fell short 53-43.

Madisonville hit their first two shots of the game and earned a lead they would not give up the entire night.  Kierra Birdow scored four points in the period and the Lady Mustangs had an 11-8 lead at the end of one period.
The Mustang defense turned in a solid performance in the second period holding the Lady Eagles to eight points and scoring 15 in the process.  Lexi Leveston and Smith each hit three pointers and the Lady Mustangs had a 26-16 lead at the half despite making only three of nine free throws.

Smith hit three trays in the early moments of the second half and the lead grew to 21 at the end of three.  Smith scored 14 of her game high 25 points in the third quarter and the game appeared to set up into a runaway.
Fairfield had one more run to try and get into the contest.  Kierra Birdow and Mikayla Thurman scored to cut into the lead.  Smith hit her sixth three pointer of the game and stayed away from the free throw line to avoid the Lady Eagle comeback.

Da’Meka Shed scored 13 points to lead the Lady Eagles.

Fairfield traveled to Athens to take on the Lady Hornets.  Fairfield held a 16-14 lead at the half and opened the second half with a 20-1 run and held a comfortable lead throughout and won the game 49-27.

Fairfield trails the Mexia Ladycats by two games in the district standings and will host them on Tuesday night.  Madisonville continues to lead the district race.

Keeping the ball in play for the Lady Eagles is Ashley Nesbitt, as Madisonville tries to steal.
