Fairfield Fire Department has retired their Ladder Truck 81 and is in the final steps of receiving the new ladder truck.

Ladder Truck 81 had served Fairfield, Texas and surrounding Freestone County for over 19 years.

“This is the final page for Fairfield Fire Department Ladder 81,” a dispatcher announced Monday, January 10, 2020 at 11:00 a.m.

The final call ended with the words, “Ladder 81 your mission here is complete.”

Fairfield Fire Chief Chandler Baggerly took time to explain how the process of switching ladder trucks works.

Part of the process of going from the older fire truck to the newer fire truck is having everything taken off the old one to be placed onto the new one.

FFD apparatus committee went to the Sutphen Headquarters in Ohio on Thursday, February 20, 2020 to do a final inspection of the new ladder truck 81.

After a great inspection, it looks like the new truck should be in Fairfield, Texas by mid-March.

The truck was a demo unit; therefore, it was not built from the ground up.

There are customizing a variety of sections on the truck specifically for the Fairfield Fire Department.

One example of this is: instead of seating six people, the new truck will seat four and instead will have a medical cabinet to allow all medical calls to be handled with the new truck.

A few plumbing changes were made, and the cabinets will have detailed compartmentalization to keep the truck perfectly organized.
