Attempting to pass a semi-truck on Sugar Hill, east of Fairfield, a young driver of a 2001 Cadillac Deville crashed head-on into a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze, resulting in the death of a mother and her son, on Friday evening, February 3, 2017.
The crash occurred at 6:58 p.m. on Highway 84 near Antioch Road (FM 1364) east of Fairfield, Texas.
The Cadillac Deville was traveling west, attempting to pass in a no passing zone, when the crash occurred. The driver, 17-year-old Joshua J. Williams of Palestine is in serious condition at Trinity Mother Frances, as of press time.
Passengers of the Cadillac include 18-year-old Daroddrick Williams, 16-year-old Jalen Perry and 18-year-old Makel Levy, all listed in serious condition at ETMC-Tyler; and 17-year-old Dennis Smith, Jr., listed in stable condition at Freestone Medical Center.
None of the occupants of the Cadillac were wearing seatbelts.
Driver of the Chevrolet Cruze is identified as 64-year-old William Wallace of Meridian. He is in stable condition at Baylor Scott & White of Waco.
Chevrolet passengers 62-year-old Charline Wallace of Meridian and 38-year-old Dwayne J. McCain of Plano both died on the scene. They were transported to Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Fairfield.
All Chevrolet passengers were wearing seatbelts.
Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash. At this time, it is unknown what charges will be filed.
Among the emergency crews responding to the scene were Butler VFD, Dew VFD and Fairfield VFD, along with five helicopters transporting victims to area hospitals.
The driver of this Chevrolet Cruze is listed in stable condition at press time, following a head-on collision with a Cadillac Deville on Friday evening, February 3, 2017.
At press time, four of the five students from Palestine were listed in stable condition, following a head-on collision on Highway 84 East of Fairfield, Texas.
