“It’s been a red letter week for the group,” says Bettye Trask of the Freestone Cancer Support Group (FCSG) in regard to recent monies donated totaling almost $12,000.

Last Tuesday, April 25th, FCSG held their Annual Spring Style Show and raised about $4,500.

They’ve also recently finished their Pink-Out campaign with Fairfield ISD = $4,300 and Teague ISD = $1,600.

In addition, their Strike Out Cancer campaign with area baseball teams brought in $1,500.

FCSG hosts two style shows each year, one in the Fall and one in the Spring, that showcases the latest clothing and jewelry fashions that can be found in the Fairfield, Teague, and surrounding areas.

Represented in this show were Kennedy’s Korner, Juls by Jul, Texas Outfitters Emporium, and Native Soul – all of Fairfield; LaDonna’s of Teague; The Cowboys’ Wife of Mexia; and Maggie Grace Boutique and Peacocks and Ponies of North Richland Hills.

Also shown were dresses from the Daddy Daughter Dances, Miss & Miss Teen Freestone County pageant, eighth grade dance, and high school prom.

As always, emcee for the event was Fairfield’s own Buzz Russell; and a delicious meal was served, prepared by Fairfield Chief of Police Kenny Bulger.

At one point during the evening, Janet Bulger asked this poignant question; “If there is anyone in this room that has not been touched by cancer in one form or another, please raise your hand.” Not one single hand was raised in a room of more than 100 guests.

Cancer survivors were recognized; and 40-year survivor, Emilee Terry won the survivors door prize – a beautiful flower arrangement provided by Creations Flowers & Gifts of Fairfield.

Diana Lewis thanked all of the sponsors for the event: Gold Level – Freestone Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram and Mustang Diesel Repair; Silver Level – Texas Farm Credit; additional sponsors include Calvary Baptist Church, Red Hat Rentals, Creations Flowers & Gifts, Plant World, The Freestone County Times, The Fairfield Recorder, all vendors, all silent auction and door prize donors.

To date, FCSG has assisted 139 people with various needs to the tune of $132,000 and couldn’t have done so without the generous donations from all of its supporters.
