A fatality wreck occurred on Monday morning, October 9, 2017 on FM 488, near FM 416 at about 3:45 a.m.

According to reports, a car with two Trinity Valley Community College of Athens football players was traveling north and veered into the southbound lane, hitting a TTST (LOVES) fuel truck head-on.

The car ignited into flames on impact, killing both young men.

The cab of the LOVES tanker truck caught fire as well, but the driver (56-yr-old man from Fort Worth) was able to escape with minor injuries and was taken to Navarro County Medical Center in Corsicana for treatment.

Driver of the car has been identified as 19-year-old freshman player, #90 Defensive Lineman, Tyler Spillman of Spring, TX. Passenger was identified as 19-year-old freshman player, #30 Defensive Back,    Bryce Cook of Houston, TX.

It is suspected that the two young men left the Houston area around midnight to make it back to campus in time for Monday morning practice; and that Spillman may have fallen asleep at the wheel.

Both bodies were taken to Dallas for autopsies.

Thankfully, the 8,800 gallons of gasoline in the taker did not leak or burn.

DPS is still investigating the official cause of the crash.
