The Fairfield Eagles had a 3-0 lead at the end of the first half and made that hold up for the remainder of the night in an 18-0 win over the Athens Hornets.
Fairfield held its home opener and the game was plagued by penalties that disrupted the flow for both teams.  There were some long drives cut short due to the flags on the field and that was part of the cause of the low scoring first half.
The fans almost saw its second consecutive scoreless first quarter but the Eagles took a 3-0 lead on a Reyes 28-yard field goal.  The kick split the uprights with 45 seconds to go in the opening quarter.
The score would hold up into the first half in a scoreless when neither team could establish any kind of rhythm.
That same tune would play until the fourth quarter when the Eagles added the insurance points.  Quarterback Zac Barlow found tossed a 22-yard score to Kam Ransom to extend the lead to 9-0.  The extra point had some trouble but it turned gold.  Barlow took the errant snap and found Ransom in the end zone for the two-point conversion and the 11-0 lead in the opening seconds of the fourth.
Ransom would later score on a three yard run to finish the scoring at 18-0.  His 16-yard run put the final touches on an Eagle win.
The Athens Hornets could not muster much offense, much the same way against Mexia the previous week.  Xavious Fulton and Malik Hall could not get the rushing offense off the ground in the loss.
The Fairfield Eagles will take back to the road this week.  They will travel to Palestine to renew their rivalry and battle the Wildcats.  Palestine defeated Jacksonville 49-40 on their first road game last week.  Game time is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
