EAGLES SOAR PAST BUFFALOES 41-2

The Fairfield Eagles built a big lead and coasted into the area round of the state playoffs with a 41-2 win over the Giddings Buffaloes at College Station Friday night.

The Eagles had lost their final two games of the season and went from first to fourth, but a fourth place finisher eliminated a district champion.

All four district nine teams won their game, totally eliminating the district ten playoff teams.

Fairfield took the opening kickoff and set the tone for the night.  Quarterback Chad Rushin completed a pass to Kolbe Branch for a third down conversion at the Giddings 44.

Branch had a 15 yard jet sweep inside the 30.  Jar-Mychael Hudson took the handoff and scored on a 29 yard touchdown run for the first score of the game.

The Eagle defense got into the act on the next possession.  Fairfield got some players healthy and they looked like they were ready to shut down the Buffaloes offense.

Trevan McWilliams knocked down a pass and the Giddings quarterback fumbled on the next play.  Kadarius Walker scooped up the loose ball and rushed up the near sideline for the 32 yard fumble return and the 14-0 lead.

Giddings got a good punt and the Eagles began on their own four yard line.  Rushin rushed on a keeper for a 29 yard run to the 33 yard line.  JaShaughn Hatcher entered the backfield and had a nine yard run.

Rushin carried to the 30 and Hatcher finished the drive with a 28 yard bolt, the offensive line blew open the defense for the score and the 20-0 lead.

Giddings failed on fourth down and Hatcher took the offense back down the field and scored on a 25 yard run, exactly like his first one with a huge opening in the Buffaloes defense and a 27-0 halftime lead.

Walker scored a touchdown on offense for a 34-0 lead and was not until the latter moments of the game that Giddings was able to put points on the board.  Haynes dropped to punt and the snap sailed over his head and through the end line for a safety.

The Buffaloes gave their last possession to the Eagles to finish the job and seal the win.  A fumble occurred and Jordan Gibson scooped it up and rumbled 38 yards for the score.

Fairfield will face the Bellville Brahmas in the area round.  The will play Saturday afternoon in Madisonville at 6pm.
