February 17, 2017 marked the 20-years business anniversary for Cucklebur Trading of Fairfield.

Owner Pogie Lane celebrated by hosting a huge half-price sale on the anniversary weekend; and even gave away a $50 gift certificate to the store for one lucky winner.

Pogie says, “It’s odd. It doesn’t seem like it’s been that long at all.”

Located at 104 Private Road 507, about two miles east of town on Highway 84 on the south side of the road, the eclectic shop was first opened in Fairfield next to Eddie’s Tire Shop; and moved to its current location about 12 years ago.

Working the store with Pogie (right) is her aunt, Dale Cuthbertson. Her mother, Miss Tinnie Cuthbertson, used to be found right alongside the two, but is no longer able to work the store. Her son, Burt Lane, and uncle, Pete Cuthbertson assist the ladies with large, heavy, and bulky items as needed.

“It’s definitely a family oriented business,” says Pogie. “It has been from the start.”

Though Cucklebur Trading has been in Fairfield for 20 years, it didn’t start here. Originally from Arizona, Pogie used the Cucklebur Trading name to sell items at various flea markets.

When she married, her husband’s family, being from Teague, brought the couple to the Freestone County area.

Cucklebur Trading carries all types of items; including, but not limited to collectible glassware, horse tack, home and office furniture, books, old records, jewelry, kitchen items, hardware, knick knacks, home remodeling supplies, tools, dolls, antiques, light fixtures and lamps, old quilts, CDs, DVDs, VCR tapes; and much more.

“Our motto has always been, ‘There Is Something for Everyone!” says Pogie. You name it, they probably have it.

Items are found by purchasing complete estates, shopping other vendors, picking up truck/trailer loads from various places as she travels, and by people who just bring in items they no longer want.

“I do this because I enjoy it,” Pogie says. “You’ve got to enjoy it because it’s work! Hard work!”

She continues saying, “I love it because I get to meet so many different people of all walks of life; and I like to work, for myself.”

“Come see us,” she concludes. “Check it out. You never know what you might find in here! There is always something new.”

Cucklebur Trading is open Monday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. They can be reached by calling 903-389-7367.
