Area teams took to facing the spring and weather to prepare and play for the playoffs.

The Fairfield Lady Eagles softball team dropped a pair to Hillsboro on Friday and Saturday.  Hillsboro took game one with a big inning in a 9-7 win and game two was in Fairfield.  Hillsboro powered two fly balls over the fence and withstood a late rally by Fairfield to win the series 9-4.

Teague took on Mildred in a pair.  The Lady Eagles dominated game one with a 14-1 game ended by the mercy rule.  Game two was a Mildred Lady Eagle win advancing them to the area round.

Wortham golfer Hagan Proulx will take to the links in Austin with his qualifying rounds to earn him a spot in the state golf tournament.  He fired a 76 and 83 to finish seventh overall but Grapeland had four of the top six and their team will head to state and Proulx will compete as an individual medalist.

Fairfield baseball will play top five Robinson for the second consecutive season.  The fourth place finishers in District 18-4A will host game one and two of the best of three series.  Game one will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday and the second game will starts approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.

The Teague Lions, top seed in 18-3A will take on the Blooming Grove Lions on Friday at Blooming Grove.  Game one will begin at 6 p.m.  The site shifts to Teague on Saturday for game two at 2 p.m. and game three to follow if necessary.

Wortham advances to take on an old rival in the bi-district round of the playoffs.  The Bulldogs will face the Frost Polar Bears on Friday at 5 p.m. in Frost.
