by Police Chief Kelly Butler

Two search warrants, on two separate residences in Wortham, were executed on Friday, March 17, 2017 by officers from the Wortham Police Department and Deputies from Freestone County Sheriff’s Office.

The search warrants were a result of an almost 3-month investigation involving the burglaries of three churches. Two churches were in Wortham and one was in Streetman.

As a result of this investigation, felony warrants were issued for two local suspects.

While conducting the searches we were able to recover approximately $1,000 in stolen property and arrested one of the suspects. Acting on information from our investigation we were able to arrest our second suspect at another location in town.

Thanks to the assistance of the sheriff’s office we were able to have enough personnel in town to arrest another subject wanted on a parole violation warrant.

On behalf of the Wortham Police Department I want to thank all of my officers who participated in this joint operation and I want to thank all of the Sheriff’s Deputies who assisted.

I also want to thank Sheriff Shipley for the loan of the deputies. This may not have been as successful without the cooperation of all the officers involved.

Great job guys!
