Making a run for it, Fairfield Varsity’s #75 Jalynn Jackson blocks for Eagle #2 Kaddarius Walker.  (Photo by Melissa Lee)             The Fairfield Eagles had a couple of turnovers and allowed the short field all night and China Spring stayed unbeaten on the season. Fairfield finishes the non-district schedule with a 1-4 record and will take a week off before beginning the District 9-4A Division II portion of the season. China Spring came in state ranked and they proved why they were ranked high with a 56-point offensive night.  They started the scoring with 4:09 remaining in the first quarter when quarterback Cutter Haigood tossed a 25-yard scoring strike to Tyrick James.  The point after made the score 7-0. It did not take long for the Cougars to add to the score.  Taking advantage of a defensive stop, Haigood threw his second touchdown pass of the night, this one to Cayden Johnson for a 29-yard score and a 14-0 lead. The Eagle offense fumbled on the next possession and China Spring only had 41 yards to go for the next score.  They did just that when Johnson plunged over for a one-yard score and a 21-0 lead.  They would put a final score on the board with just over two minutes to go in the half when James scored on a one-yard run.  The...

Lions Win Thriller Score of 14-10 Against West

The Teague Lions scored two touchdowns in the last four minutes to escape with a road win in West in the District 9-3A Division I opener. The defenses of both clubs dominated the night and West scored ten points on two short drives taking advantage of Teague special teams miscues. Teague took the opening kickoff went three plays and were forced to punt following a personal foul that backed them up inside their own 15-yard line.  Antonio Heard took the snap on fourth down and tucked the ball and tried to get the first down.  He was stopped at the 25 and the Trojans took over on downs.  West could not get a first down and Adolfo Rodriguez made a 29-yard field goal to give the Trojans a 3-0 lead with 8:02 remaining in the first quarter. The teams exchanged turnovers in the latter moments of the first quarter.  Dawson Sulak picked off a Heard pass and returned it 42 yards to the Teague 30-yard line.  On the next play from scrimmage, West quarterback Nathan Gerik fumbled the snap and Hayden Roberts pounced on it.  It was his first action returning from an injury. Both offenses could not move the ball and the teams went into the locker room with West clinging to a 3-0 lead. It was not until the last few minutes of the third quarter that...
