Fairfield Sweeps the Week, Leads the District Race

Madisonville players look on as Elijah Ransom soars above them for two points. The week was a tale of two games, but both were Eagle wins and Fairfield leads the district race and the end of the first half of games. Tuesday, the Fairfield Eagles hosted the Madisonville Mustangs in a pivotal game.  What the night finished with was a dominating performance in a 75-38 win.  Akeem Jackson had a huge game with 30 points and 12 rebounds. Jackson hit a three from the top  of the key for the early lead.  Deonte McAdams scored an early basket but it was the Eagles soaring in the first moments.  Jackson scored three more times to reach double digits in the four minutes.  Jailyn Tatum scored on a couple of drives to the basket and E. J. Ransom scored a couple of times near the end of the period, including a long range bomb for a 19-8 lead after one. Tatum dished off a couple of highlight assists for scores to Jase Oliver and Jackson and the Eagles continued to build a big lead with a 9-0 run in the first four minutes of the second period.  Jackson another three for a 31-10 lead.  Jackson scored 21 in the first half and the Eagles led 42-20. Lady Eagles Split Week, Near Playoff Berth

Shooting for two is Keara Birdow.   The Fairfield Lady Eagles split the week and remain in a solid third place position in the District 18-4A standings. Fairfield opened the week at the Johnson Activity Center and hosted the Madisonville Lady Mustangs.  The district leading Lady Mustangs got six three pointers from Tra’dayja Smith and the Lady Eagles fell short 53-43. Madisonville hit their first two shots of the game and earned a lead they would not give up the entire night.  Kierra Birdow scored four points in the period and the Lady Mustangs had an 11-8 lead at the end of one period. The Mustang defense turned in a solid performance in the second period holding the Lady Eagles to eight points and scoring 15 in the process.  Lexi Leveston and Smith each hit three pointers and the Lady Mustangs had a 26-16 lead at the half despite making only three of nine free throws. Smith hit three trays in the early moments of the second half and the lead grew to 21 at the end of three.  Smith scored 14 of her game high 25 points in the third quarter and the game appeared to set up into a runaway. Fairfield Elite Takes Second Place

The local 14U Division Fairfield Elite Select Volleyball team played in the Under Armour Open Tournament in Frisco, Texas on Saturday, January 21, 2017, taking second place in the Gold Bracket! There were a total of 20 teams in the division and it was the Fairfield group’s second tournament. The girls are coached by Dori and Marty Harkcom, of Fairfield. The team consists of the following young ladies: “The Fairfield Elite girls played their hearts out! We are very pleased as coaches with their effort and determination throughout the day. We have made tremendous progress over the last 2 months,” Dori Harkcom stated. The girls played a total of 13 sets on Saturday. The first place team in the championship game was ranked #35 in the North Texas Region.  This young team has definitely left an impression!
