Teague & Wortham Advance in Baseball Playoffs

The Teague Lions and Wortham Bulldogs dominated the bi-district round and will play in the area baseball playoffs. Teague took on the Blooming Grove Lions with the first game in Blooming Grove. Jaylon Davis took the mound and won the first game 11-3. He walked the bases loaded in the fourth inning and got a ball hit back to the mound and throw to third for a double play. Fairfield Girls Little Dribblers Take National Champ Titles

Fairfield Girls Little Dribblers (FGLD) win Championship titles at the National Tournament in Canton, Texas. The Major Girls, led by Coach Tony Brackens, earned the title of National Champions of the Major Division; and the Junior Girls, coached by Demond McMillan, also earned the title of National Champions in the Juniors Division. Coach Erik Jackson worked with the Senior Girls team and earned Third Place in the Senior Division. All teams competed well and were greatly supported by Fairfield fans. Eagles Headed to Regionals: Athletes to Compete in Huntsville

Over a dozen Fairfield tracksters will head to Huntsville’s Bowers Stadium for the Region III meet next weekend. Madison Smith took a first-place finish in the 3200-meter run ahead of teammate Morgan Coleman.  Both ladies will advance to the regional meet.  Smith had already punched a ticket to the regional meet with a third-place finish in the 800-meter run.  She finished behind Jordan Brock of Gatesville and Alana Armstrong of Lorena. Da’Meka Shed will also compete in two events in Huntsville.  She finished third in the 300 meter hurdles.  The event was won by Jade Bontke from Hillsboro and second was Lorena’s Tiffani Peacock.  Shed also finished fourth in the 110 hurdles in a close race won by Sha’rell Houff of Connally. Brandi Carter finished third in the 200-meter dash. Keara Birdow took second in the shot put in an event won by Alesis Juntunen of Lorena.  Josey Richardson finished fourth in the discus and Cali Gawryszewski had a third-place finish in the pole vault.  That event was dominated by Lorena’s Tiffani Peacock by two and a half feet. The mile relay team of Matilda Ohvo, Madison Smith, Da’Meka Shed and Iesha Jenkins finished third behind teams from LaVega and Connally. Nickleberry to Represent Teague Lady Lions in All-Star Game

Junior guard KaDaja Nickleberry will represent Teague High School at the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-Star game; which will be played on Tuesday, July 11th in Austin Texas. KaDaja finished the season averaging 17. Ppg, 9.0 rpg, 4.2 apg, and 6.5 spg. County Runners Advance in Competition

A few of track athletes in Freestone County qualified for regional track meets.  Teague area athletes will head to Hart Patterson track complex in Waco at Baylor University and Wortham area runners will take to Palestine High School.  All meets are next weekend. Teague Lady Lion Lizette Aguilera was a big winner in the area meet last week with a second-place finish in the 1600-meter run.  The event was won by Erin Derden of Rice.  She also finished second in the 3200-meter run also won by Derden. Teague Lady Lion Kylie Persons finished fourth in the 100-meter dash. Monica Guerrero took a fourth-place finish and was two inches shy of third in the shot put.  Macy Guerrero finished third in the triple jump. The Lady Lion sprint relay finished third in a close race behind Malakoff and Palestine Westwood and fourth in the 4×200 behind Westwood, Elkhart and Malakoff. Jaquaylin Daniels sprinted to a photo finish in the 110 meter hurdles.  Dawson Adams of Buffalo edged Daniels by 0.04 of a second. Jaylon Davis was second in the 400-meter dash in an event won by Crane Cash of Leon.  He finished fourth in the triple jump as well. Maverick Jewell took third in the 200-meter dash.
