Bulldogs Winning Streak Continues 38-21

The Wortham Bulldogs have not been 3-0 since the varsity players were alive…The year was 1998 and now 2017. Wortham was 10-0 that year but this Bulldog team is beginning to make waves in Central Texas with a dominating win over the Rosebud-Lott Cougars. FHS Battles Kaufman in Cross Country Meet

Andrea Jauregui, Runner and Eagle Beat Reporter Once again back on track, the Fairfield cross country team traveled to Canton to compete against the toughest competition so far this season. Athletes always expect competition at any meet, but this race was far more competitive. Varsity boys began the day, and out of 78 runners, Andy Smith placed 26th. Joey Davis came in 33rd, Hunter Noland in 35th, Deandre Rosales in 42nd, Landon Espinoza in 53rd, and Tye Farmer in 61st place. As a team, the varsity boys finished in seventh place, Mount Vemon beating them by only one point. The next race to take place was the JV boys’ race. Jeremy Long finished in 19th place, David West in 59th place, and Eddie Sanchez in 70th place. Unfortunately, the JV boys did not qualify as a team, as they did not have five or more runners. Varsity girls battled throughout the race with Kaufman athletes. Madison Smith finished 3rd, Morgan Coleman finished 7th, Alexis Rodriguez finished 14th, Victoria Donohoo finished 21st, Ashlyn Partain finished 26th, Britain Bossier finished 29th, and Erica McQuinn finished 38th. The girls placed second as a team, Kaufman finished with a total of 34 point and the Lady Eagles with 53 points. Junior Varsity girls had their fair share of Kaufman competition. Eagles Hold On For First Win 27-24

The Fairfield Eagles scored a late touchdown and held onto to defeat the Athens Hornets 27-24 at Bruce Field on Friday night. The Eagles (1-1), coming off a lopsided loss to the LaVega Pirates last week, jumped out to another lead and made it hold up.  Athens came back and took a slim lead but the Eagles answered. First Place Lady Eagles Cross Country Team

by Andrea Jauregui, Runner & Eagle Beat Reporter Hurricane Harvey took its toll on the cross country team this past Saturday. Due to refugee aid being based at the Kate Barr-Ross Park in Huntsville, Coach Katie Wade found the team another meet. The substitute meet took place at the University of Texas in Tyler. The JV girls competed first, the top runner was Melanie Pina who placed 20th out of about 200 competitors. Kailee Marchand finished 28th, Diana Casteneda finished 44th, Andrea Jauregui finished 85th, Coral Chavez finished 115th, Hannah Leatherman finished 124th, Alex Casteneda finished 148th, and Anahy Munoz competed with the team. The team placed 10th out of 26 teams. Next to compete were the varsity girls. Madison Smith was the top runner from Fairfield and the race itself, Smith placed 1st overall. The next Lady Eagle to finish was Morgan Coleman who placed 4th, Alexis Rodriguez placed 22nd, Victoria Donohoo placed 36th, Ashlyn Partain placed 47th, Erica McQuinn placed 49th, Brooke Leatherman placed 72nd, Natalia Salazar, Michelle Rosales, and Jenny Pina also competed in the race. The girls placed 1st beating the second place team by only one point. This time Fairfield had a JV boys team as well.
