Junior High Eagles Rock at Mascot Camp

by Kathie Maciel FJH mascots eighth grader Jordan Maciel and seventh grader Riley Ralstin recently attended a three day NCA Cheer and Mascot camp hosted by Horn High School in Mesquite. “It is such an honor to be Emi the Eagle,” Riley said. “I love her character. Once I have the suite on I am a new person.” The girls spent their camp days learning skills like pantomime, expression, crowd interaction, prop-making, and team building. “I will remember to use pantomime,” Riley said. “And I loved the decorated tables and skits that we did.” Riley was awarded the Most Spirited Mascot award and two awards of excellence. Jordan received awards of excellence, superior, and leadership and the All American Mascot award. “Camp was amazing and full of fun,” Jordan said. “The most fun thing was probably dancing and skits. My character Ellie is very bold and ready to breakdown at any moment.” Both girls together, as their camp alter-egos sisters Ellie the Eagle and Emi the Eagle, won the camp mascot spirit stick. “I’m so glad that I don’t have to do this alone,” Riley said, “and that I have Jordan to help. And it was so surprising and cool to be adopted by another team.” In attendance were 14 other cheer squads and eight other mascots. Since the two mascots were attending without their squad, they were “adopted”...

School Year Ends with Victory Bowl

The end of the school year brought about graduation and the final sports events of the season. Several area athletes put on a show for large crowds at the Victory Bowl events sponsored by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. The events began with the baseball and softball games at the Sportsplex on the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton. With his team trailing 4-0, Barlow worked a walk and was stranded in scoring position. He later flew out to short centerfield in his opportunities to play. He started on defense and played second base. China Spring slugger Brett Cain launched a towering home run to put the Red Team ahead 13-4 and they would add one more for a 14-4 run rule win. Saturday began the full day of events with the All-Star Volleyball game at University High School. Katherine Higgins of Teague was a reserve player for the Blue Team and played well with a few blocks and several spikes over the net. There were several rallies throughout the match but the Blue team won in straight sets 3-0. At evening began to fall, the gridiron took center stage with more than 75 football players. Zach Jones of Wortham drew the start at quarterback...
