Copperhead Run Coming August 19th

This year’s Copperhead Run is just around the corner, beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2017. The event takes place behind the softball field; and all proceeds benefit Fairfield Cross Country teams. Pre-registered entry is $20 per person and includes a T-shirt. Pre-registered entry for Cross Country team members is $15. Deadline for pre-registration is August 9th. Race day entries must be completed by 8:15 a.m. and is $25. No T-shirts will be available for race day entrants. A new entry option is offered this year. Sleep-In entry is $20; and is for those who would like to donate to the teams, but wish to stay in bed. T-shirts for sleep-in entrants are available only if they are picked up during the event. Adult Overall Winners will receive $50 Cash. Workouts, Camps Close Out the Summer in Fairfield

Fairfield Junior High School Summer Workout and Basketball Camp began this week. Summer work out will continue next week along with Volleyball Camp. Fairfield Junior High School Girls’ Summer Workout Schedule –Monday-Thursday, July 17-20 is 7:00-8:30 a.m. in the South Gym –Monday-Thursday, July 24-27 is 7:00-8:30 a.m. in the South Gym Basketball and Volleyball Camp dates and times: –Basketball Camp will be Monday-Thursday, July 17-20 from 9:00 a.mm to Noon in the Maroon Gym at Johnson Activity Center –Volleyball Camp will be Monday-Thursday, July 24-27 from 9:00 a.m. to Noon in the Maroon Gym at Johnson Activity Center Girls attending summer workouts will have time to rest before camp starts. They will be escorted to the Maroon Gym to rest, change shoes, and get a drink. The cost for basketball and volleyball camp is $50 each and includes a camp T-shirt. Basketball camp will provide a basketball to each participant. There will be a concession stand at both camps for break time. If you would like to send money with your child on the first day, it will be put in the bank, and subtracted from their account daily. Meet the New Officers of Teague Youth Football Association

TYFA would like to introduce to the community its board members for the upcoming 2017 football & cheer year. President of the Board: Cassey Daniels whom many of you may already know was on the board last year and directed our cheerleaders. She has been a part of most of the little league organizations in our area for about 7 years. Vice President: Amy Jewell was on the board a few years ago as secretary and helped in whatever areas she was needed. She knows and loves the sport business. Treasurer: Sandy Sanford was on the board a couple few years ago. She came back on board last year and is looking forward to another year with our organization. Secretary: Johnna Wilson has been on the board for the past two years. She assisted with the cheerleaders last year and will take over as head cheer coach this year. Area Rep: Jay Jewell served as president of the board a few years ago and was brought in last year and helped with bringing organization to the board. Jay loves any and all sports and has been around them since birth. High School Football: A Look at the 2017 Game Schedule

As the heat rises, area football teams take to the brown grass and get ready to build their championship teams for the season. All teams have the same aspirations with not a single game having been played. For some, that dream will become reality, for most, it will be just another season that was. The Fairfield Eagles and Mexia Blackcats did not make the playoffs together last season for the first time since 1995. If they repeat that feat it will be the first time ever in back to back seasons. Coaching staffs are seeing that this does not happen this season. Fairfield played several young players in an injury plagued season and many of them got some valuable playing time should pay dividends for Coach Bachtel’s Eagles. Mexia sends a new coach to the sidelines. Frank Sandoval comes to Limestone County from a solid Cedar Hill program and looks to take the Blackcats to the post season for the first time in a few years. Both the Blackcats and Eagles are projected to not make the playoffs by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine. Lorena is the projected winner followed by Salado, the surprise of the 2016 season. Robinson loses a record setting quarterback but is slated as the third-place team. Waco Conally is projected to round out the playoff qualifiers followed by Fairfield and Mexia. Scires Signs with L.A. Angels – FHS Grad Joins Major League Baseball

One of Fairfield’s Boys of Summer has signed on with the Los Angeles Angels baseball team. Caleb Scires (FHS class of 2016) signed a contract on Thursday, June 29, 2017 to play Center Field for the Angels. According to the 2017 MLB Draft Tracker, Scires received at $125,000 signing bonus. Scires played baseball for the Fairfield Eagles all four years in high school. Scires began his high school career by earning Freshman of the Year, and was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2016.
