Philip Ray Winfrey

                Philip Ray Winfrey, 81, of Fairfield, died Tuesday, October 25, 2016 in Fairfield.  Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 28, 2016 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Skinner officiating.  Interment followed at Fairfield Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Billy Patterson, Clint Seale, Mark Chavers, Lindale Phillips, Donald Mullen and Tommy Miller.  Honorary pallbearers were members of the Gideon Sunday School Class. Mr. Winfrey was born March 30, 1935 in Freestone County, near Teague, to parents Phillip M. and Vera Mae Liles Winfrey.  Mr. Winfrey owned and operated a machine shop in Garland, TX prior to retirement.  Following retirement he moved to Fairfield where his family lived.  He loved working at, and meeting people at a local coffee shop known as the Rooster Crow.  After a while he knew what the customers wanted and had their coffee ready as they drove by the window.  One of his customers painted a picture of him in a Hawaiian shirt which was a signature of his.  He also worked for his church, Calvary Baptist, as a maintenance supervisor until poor health forced his retirement.  Left to cherish his memory are four children, Philip Randall Winfrey and wife Melissa of Houston, TX; Patricia Breaux and husband Ronnie of Flower Mound, TX; Windi Rae Brown of Brandon, MS; Phillip Wayne Winfrey of Austin, TX; one sister,...

Marie Elizabeth Moore

                    Mrs. Marie Elizabeth Moore, 83, of Fairfield, died Tuesday, October 11, 2016 in Fairfield.  Funeral services were held 10:00 A.M. Friday, October 14, 2016 at Capps Memorial Chapel with Dr. Richard Heyduck, Pastor, First United Methodist Church of Fairfield officiating.  Interment followed at Thomason Cemetery near the Guy’s Store Community near Centerville. Pallbearers were Holt Moore, John Morgan, Michael Morgan, Trey Moore, Tucker Moore and Roger McCrary. Marie Elizabeth Claes was born August 13, 1933 in Galveston to parents Marie Antoinette Cannatella and James Edward Claes, a chief steward, both of Galveston.  She attended Ursuline Academy and graduated Ball High School in 1950 at the age of sixteen.  She attended Sam Houston State Teachers College.  In 1954 she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Chemistry.  While studying at Sam Houston she married the love of her life, Harold Reginald Moore in 1952.  Bill and Marie celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on the 6th of September of this year.  During those years she was a high school chemistry teacher as well as helped raise three children.  She also was one of the founders of the Fairfield Library Association, served as President of the PTA in Fairfield, was a member of the Freestone County Historical Society, and the Fairfield Band Boosters.  When she was young, she...

Ann Whitaker

  Ann Whitaker, 86, formerly of Fairfield, died Sunday, September 25, 2016 in Temple, Texas.  Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Capps Memorial Chapel with Pastor Gary Hocker officiating.  Interment followed at Fairfield Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Aaron Dodds, Joshua Dodds, Brian Patterson, Gordon Smith, David Patterson, and Ethan Mudge.  Mrs. Whitaker was born December 16, 1929 in Fairfield to parents Rufus and Lois Daniel Ivy.  She returned to Fairfield in 1970 and then moved to Copperas Cove in 2015 to be near family.  She was employed as a bookkeeper for a number of years with Rutherford Construction and Ace Hardware in Fairfield.  She was a former treasurer at Emmanuel Baptist Church and was currently a member of Cove Nazarene Church in Copperas Cove.  She married John Whitaker on December 2, 1948 and he preceded her in death in April 2006.  In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.  Survivors include two daughters, Judy Patterson and husband David of Pasadena, TX; Vickie Smith and husband Gordon of Copperas Cove, TX; eight grandchildren, Joshua Hawes, Amberleigh Hensley, Kelly Patterson, Brian Patterson, Brittanny Powers, Aaron Dodds, Joshua, Dodds, Hannah Dodds; 10 great-grandchildren. Kenneth DeWayne “Wayne” Taylor

                  Kenneth DeWayne “Wayne” Taylor, 75, of Fairfield, died Thursday, September 22, 2016 at his residence.  Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 25, 2016 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Ken Pruitt officiating.  Interment with military honors followed at Lake Chapel Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Eric Wilson, Seth Trussell, John Mark Wilson, Bryan Baize, Scott Taylor, Caleb Wilson, Jake Taylor, Daniel Wilson, Luke Taylor, Brett Wilson, Michael Taylor, Ben Wilson, Zac Taylor and Justin Taylor. Wayne was born on March 20, 1941, in Bertram, Texas to father, Floyd Riley “Buck” and mother, Ruby Whitby Taylor.  Wayne attended school in Burnet, Texas, and served in the United States Marine Corp from 1958 – 1962.  Wayne went to work for Industrial Generating Company (Texas Utilities) in Rockdale, Texas, in 1966, transferring to Big Brown Mine in Fairfield, Texas, in 1971.  In 1999, he retired from TXU after 33 years of service.  Wayne’s passion was his family.  He loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and extended family.  He loved family vacations and gatherings, and was always happy to have his large family around him for holidays, family dinners, and grandchildren sleep overs.  Wayne married Lanora Gibson of Marble Falls, Texas, on July 28, 1961.  Wayne and Lanora’s children are:  Jeff and Lisa Taylor, Shelly and John Wilson, and Carol Taylor of...

David Wayne Kimball

  David Wayne Kimball was born on July 23, 1968 in Houston, Texas; and later moved to Freestone County in 1980. David always called Fairfield his home; and he graduated from Fairfield High School in 1986. He passed away at his home on September 12, 2016. David loved life, his family and friends; and was an avid football, baseball, softball, horseshow, rodeo, and wrestling fan. He loved the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and Dallas Mavericks, but first and foremost his Fairfield Eagles.
