The Magnolia Benevolent Association of Freestone County (Burial Club) will celebrate its 104th anniversary on Saturday September 10, 6:00pm. The celebration will be at Pleasant Hill MBC Simsboro community located on FCR 930 E. Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy a Celebration featuring talent in the form of praise dancers, solo’s, quartets, and choirs. Refreshments will be served.
This Association was organized in 1912 in the small community of Simsboro when a group of African Americans grew weary of begging, passing the hat, and rejection from other organized agencies when it was time to bury their dead. They gathered together and said among themselves, “We have dignity and pride, lets organize and take care of our own at these difficult times,” and they did.
The Association received its official charter from the State of Texas in 1939.
Membership is open to everyone who meets the membership guidelines. More information at dnrnealy@gmail.com.
