Lions Bound for Playoffs

The Teague Lions built a big lead at the end of the quarter and they finished off the regular season and will face an old foe in the first round of the playoffs. Teague got a spark from a lineman for the opening score of the game.  Offensive tackle Jacob Maggard took the handoff in the backfield in the heavy package for the Lions.  He scored on a four-yard run and the Lions never looked back. Tailbacks Tayvis Coleman, in limited action and Jelico Green each scored a touchdown in the first half and Logan Escobar hauled in a 50-yard touchdown pass to close out the half. The second half was just finishing up and Palestine Westwood scored a couple of time to set the score at 35-13. Teague goes in as the top seed in the playoffs from District 9-3A Division I.  They will face the Cameron Yoemen for the fourth consecutive year.  The Yoe have ended the Lions’ season in deeper rounds and Cameron finished fourth in District 10.  The game is set for 7pm at Robinson High School. Wortham Bulldogs Finish Season with Sixth Straight Loss

The Wortham Bulldogs travelled to Overton and suffered the first win of the season for the Mustangs in a 54-26 win over the Bulldogs. Wortham began the season at 4-0 but suffered through the final six games and lost all six, the last five in district play and will not qualify for the playoffs. Lady Dawgs Fall Against Crawford in Regional Quarterfinal

The top team in the state, the Crawford Lady Pirates, closed out the Wortham Lady Bulldogs in straight sets on Tuesday night at University High School in Waco. Wortham held close in the first game.  Ashley Mao server the Lady Bulldogs to a slim lead but Crawford took their lead to 15-10 maintained that lead for a 25-16 win. Morgan Claxton, Niellee Plemons, and Whitney Dean helped the Lady Pirates to dominate the second set 25-8. Lions Dominate Top Ten Tigers 35-14

The Teague Lions have not shown their best all season. Friday night they did and then some. The Lions dominated fifth ranked Malakoff 35-14 in the final home game of the season. The win forced a three way tie for the district lead with one game remaining. Malakoff, West and Teague are all at 5-1 in the district standings with Eustace and Groesbeck two games back with big games coming up in the season’s final week. Bulldogs Eliminated From Playoff Chase

The Wortham Bulldogs lost their final home game and their fifth consecutive game to the Grapeland Sandies and were eliminated from the playoff hunt 35-18 on Friday night at historic Bulldog Stadium. Wortham and Overton are both winless in district play and will face off against each other Friday in Overton and it will be the final game of the season for both teams.
