Bulldogs Lose First Game in Shootout 41-34

The Wortham Bulldogs had chances to remain unbeaten but fell short to the Granger Lions on the road Friday night 41-34. Senior running back Stephon Ester returned to the Bulldog backfield following an injury two weeks ago and he did not disappoint. Ester carried 33 times for 250 yards and three touchdowns in the loss. He is only 83 yards short of 1000 for the season heading into district play. Lions Lose Home Opener 42-26

The Teague Lions have not been home all season and their first chance to play under the local lights was the district opener against an old foe. The West Trojans invaded Lion Stadium and handed the Lions a 42-26 defeat in the District 9-3A D I opener.  It evens the season record at 2-2. Teague had several big plays called back on penalties and those plays could have kept them in the game but the offense stalled and West kept the pressure on Teague. Fairfield Turnovers Cost Eagles 33-21

Three turnovers in the first quarter and five in the game helped the Eagles even their record at 2-2 with a 33-21 homecoming loss to the Rusk Eagles. The Fairfield offense had trouble going with three fumbles in the first eight minutes of play but the defense got two of them back deep in their own territory to stay in the game. Bulldogs Defense Sets Tone to Stay Perfect

Brandon Coker (pictured below) took an interception 16 yard for the go ahead touchdown late to send the Bulldogs to a 4-0 start on the young season with a 15-9 win over neighboring county rival Dawson. The Wortham Bulldogs were without leading rusher Stephon Ester and key defensive player Dalton Sandlin and it showed in some places but the Bulldogs took care of the 1-2 Dawson team and now they have one six-straight in the rivalry. Eagles Dominate Wildcats 34-6

The Fairfield Eagles needed to get off to an early start to beat Palestine.  The start and the finish were enough to take out the Wildcats. Fairfield (2-1) used the running and passing offense to race past the Palestine Wildcats at Eagle Field on Friday. Fairfield took the opening kickoff and fumbled at midfield and the Wildcats took over at the Fairfield 48.  The Eagle defense stiffened and forced Palestine to punt.
