Fairfield Runner Takes 4th Place

Area track athletes competed in the UIL State Track and Field Meet at the Mike A. Myers Complex on the University of Texas campus.

Tashundra Reeves of Mexia competed in the 4A girls shot put.  She had the eighth best qualifying throw heading into the finals.  Her first throw of the final round sailed to a distance of 41’ 6.5” and that was good enough for a silver medal.  She edged Lauryn Dixon of Princeton for the second place finish.  Priscill Adejokun of Melissa took the state title.

Fairfield star Da’Meka Shed competed in the 300 meter hurdles.  She had already claimed the school record with a photo finish in the regional and it was set to be a fast race.   Her race would lower the mark to a tougher time with a school record setting 44.65.  That time was good for a fourth place finish.  Jaycee Panell of Godley ran a 44.33 and won the event.  Shed was edged out by Jessica Nevils of Hampshire-Fannett(44.51) and Mackenzie Molina of Lake Worth(44.64).

Jaylon Davis of Teague played baseball the night before and took the long trip to Austin to compete in the 3A 400 meter dash.  His time of 50.80 was good for a sixth place finish.  Will Anderson of East Bernard won the event with a 48.00.

Palestine Westwood sprinter Xavier Billups finished ninth in the 100 meter dash.

Palestine’s sprint relay finished sixth in an event won by Dallas Carter.
