The Angelic Hosts came for Mr. Altus Carter, Sr., Thursday, May 18, 2017 in the Temple V.A. Hospital among loving family and devoted friends.

Viewing was held Friday, May 26, 2017 in the Moore’s Angelic Funeral Chapel.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 27, 2017 in the Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church, 311 N. Baker Street, Mexia, TX 76667 with the Pastor, Rev. Byron Ravnell officiating, and Rev. Kevin Van Hook as Eulogist.

Interment followed in the Cedar Hill Cemetery located at 1618 W. Hwy 84, Mexia, Texas.

Mr. Carter was born in The Rocky Branch Community of Wortham to Olester and Iola Carter.

He grew up in Freestone County and the family later moved to Limestone County.

He graduated from Mexia’s Dunbar High School, and served a tour of duty with the U.S. Army from which he received an honorable discharge.

Altus married Sue Jernigan upon his discharge from the Army and later married Luetta Smith.

He was employed at The Mexia State School, was a faithful member of Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church and was a member of the United Brotherhood.

He is survived by 3 sons: Arnold Carter (Judy), Altus Carter, Jr. (Sandra) and Charles Carter, all of Mexia; 3 daughters:  Ginger Christian (Alvin) Odessa, TX, Linda Carter, Tyler, TX; and Charlotte Gilliam, Dallas, TX; 2 sisters: Mardestine Williams (Walter) Mexia, TX; and Barbara Moore, Dallas, TX; Special Nephew: Sydney Wayne Carter (Melba) Mexia, Tx; his wife: Evelyn Crawford, Streetman, TX; 12

Grandchildren; 22 Great-Grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
